Parish Religious Education Program (PREP)

Home  /  Parish Religious Education Program (PREP)

Religious Education classes are offered for children enrolled in grades 1–8 who do not attend a Catholic school. Classes meet Sunday mornings from 10:45–11:45 a.m., from mid-September through May (excluding Christmas and Easter). The program is led by dedicated volunteer catechists and includes two-year preparation for First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Each year, a PREP calendar is provided for every family registered in the program.

PREP Curriculum

Grades 1 through 6 use the “Alive in Christ” Discovering and Sharing the Kerygma” program.

Grades 7 and 8 follow the Diocesan Program “Chosen.”

Special Education sessions can be scheduled upon request. Please contact the Coordinator of Religious Education at prep@sclhbg.org to discuss options for your child.

Volunteer for PREP and PREP events.  Click here to sign up.
Volunteering is a way to put your faith into action, to thank God for this parish, to provide an example for children… in addition to being a great way to get to know other families and have fun!

Parental Involvement

  • Parents are encouraged to attend our Blessing of the New School Year Prayer Service in September.
  • Religious education is not a substitute for Sunday Liturgy. Parents are reminded to bring their children to weekly Mass.
  • Parents are encouraged to help their children learn the formal prayers in their textbooks and on grade-level prayer sheets. A Catholic prayer pamphlet will be sent home as a resource. Regular family prayer time is essential to nurturing a child’s faith.

    • Preparation: 1st & 2nd Grade (two-year program)
